Note: If there are more than one Elastic Storage System 3000 being deployed, the customer will need
to provide Canister management interface IP addresses for each additional unit.
2. Perform the following EMS checks:
a. Ensure that an Ethernet cable is available to be used.
b. Check EMS hardware health and configure management network interface:
1) Disable Wi-Fi on your laptop/operating system.
2) Connect the laptop using Ethernet to the C10-T4 (Port 4 - Bottom, see Figure 37 on page 65)
of 1 Gb NIC on the EMS (if it is racked, a cable might be already inserted into this port.
Temporarily remove it to plug your laptop). You may also connect into the FSP VLAN as an
alternative option vs point-to-point.
3) Define the IP on the laptop to 10.0.0.100 with subnet 10.0.0.0/24, netmask 255.255.255, and
gateway 10.0.0.1.
4) Power on the EMS using the white button (once pressed, the color of the blinking LED becomes
solid). Wait five minutes (or longer) before moving on to the next step.
5) Perform a ping test.
Using a terminal window (not putty), ping the default FSP network interface as shown in the
following example:
ping 10.0.0.1
This should return a successful result. If not, inspect your IP settings and the cable. If you still
face issues, use a serial connection to debug the boot process and potentially login as root. For
more information, see the “EMS issues” on page 59 topic.
6) Open putty and set the target address as 10.0.0.1/24 (port 22 for SSH), accept any security
prompts. You will get a login window.
7) Log in using the service user ID and default password:
uid: essserv1
pw: <server serial #>
Note: Look at the front of the EMS server for the serial number. This serves as the password for
the
essserv1
user. For example, if the EMS serial number is
2133B9A
, the password is
2133B9A
.
Press the Enter key, the
essutils
menu opens.
8) Go to the SSR menu, run the 2. Check and validate various install parameters option, and
then the 3. Quick storage configuration check option. Address all the hardware issues that
you find.
Note: Skip any option that says IO-Node Only.
