6. At this point, the rails and ESS 3000 enclosure are installed, the enclosure is mounted on the rail with
all the components that were removed, reinserted into the slots.
Connecting the components (IBM SSR task)
After installing rails and the ESS 3000 enclosure in the rack, the next step is to connect to the power and
network.
Connecting Ethernet cables to the server canisters
To provide system management connectivity for your system, you must connect the Ethernet cables to
Ethernet port 1 of each server canister in the ESS 3000 system.
Connect Ethernet port 1 of each server canister in the system to the IP network that will provide
connection to the system management interfaces, as shown in Figure 25 on page 46 and Figure 26 on

Powering on the system
After you install all the hardware components, you must power on the system and check its status.
Attention: Do not power on the system with any open bays or slots. Open bays or slots disrupt the
internal air flow, causing the drives to receive insufficient cooling.
