2. Gently pull the metal plate outward with one hand, and lift the lithium battery
from the socket.
3. Insert the new lithium battery.

Release the metal plate.
5. Repeat Steps 1 on page 84 through 4 to locate and remove the lithium battery
in Controller B; then, continue with Step 6.
6. Dispose off the batteries as required by local ordinances or regulations.
The battery must be recycled or disposed of properly. Recycling facilities may
not be available in your area. For information on disposal of batteries outside
the United States, see http://www.ibm.com/ibm/environment/products/
batteryrecycle.shtml or contact your local waste disposal facility.
In the United States, IBM has established a return process for reuse, recycling,
or proper disposal of used batteries. For information on proper disposal of
these batteries, contact IBM at 1-800-426-4333.
Replacing a host interface adapter
Before you begin, read “Safety” on page ix and ensure that you wear an anti-static
wrist strap.
Attention: If the host interface adapter is to be removed from both controllers or
is being replaced with a new host interface adapter, then you will need to power
off the system. See “Turning off the storage system” on page 70. You do not need
to power off the system to replace a failed host interface adapter.
Complete the following steps to replace a host interface adapter that is installed in
a controller that is still installed in the storage system. Otherwise, go to step 4 on
page 86.

Label and disconnect the cables that are connected to the controller.
2. To open the two controller release levers, pull the lever orange tab outward.
The controller moves out of the bay approximately 0.6 cm (0.25 inch).
