Guide
This document provides information about how to install the IBM DataPower Cast Iron Appliance XH40.

Installing the appliance
To install the DataPower Cast Iron Appliance XH40 in the rack, complete the following procedure:
1.
Carefully unpack the appliance. Locate all supplied power cords, the serial console cable and the
hardware. Do not discard the serial console cable after installation, as you may need it later for
problem determination or maintenance.
2.
Identify the rack location for installation and ensure that there is sufficient space above and below the
appliance for ventilation and appliance maintenance.
3.
Secure the mounting rails.
4.
Slide the appliance into position, and secure the front angle brackets. For more information, see the
front panel and rear panel graphics in the
Installation Guide
.
5.
From the front of the appliance, connect the
MGMT
and data network cables to an appliance on your
network. Ethernet cables are not supplied.
6.
From the rear of the appliance, use the supplied power cords to connect power supply 1 and power
supply 2 to power outlets.
7.
From a serial console, use the supplied serial console cable to establish a connection to the
CONSOLE
connector on the front of the device. The connection must be configured with 9600 baud 8N1 (8 bits
per character, no parity, 1 stop bit) and no flow control. The recommended terminal emulation on the
serial console is VT100.
8.
On the front of the appliance, push the power button to
ON
. The green power LED light is illuminated
and the serial console must display the following message as it boots:
DSPOS
Loading system ...
If this message is not displayed, your serial console might not be configured correctly.
Wait for a few minutes for the appliance to boot. After it has booted, the serial console is displayed with
the login prompt.
