number of blades that can be deployed in a single chassis.
Using the 8720 or 8730 BladeCenter T Chassis: IBM supports the installation of up to eight
AMD Opteron LS21 blades in the BladeCenter T chassis with the latest management module
firmware, which includes a fuel gauge. The fuel gauge enables power throttling in the unlikely
event of a power supply failure. The fuel gauge feature reduces power consumption per blade
during a power crisis, helping keep all eight blades installed in the chassis up and running, but at
a possibly lower performance level. Users that are not willing to accept any power/performance
throttling should limit the number of blades they install in a BladeCenter T chassis to seven
blades. At this power requirement the LS21 does not require any throttling.
This machine includes power management that delivers the maximum uptime possible for your
systems. In extended thermal conditions, rather than shut down completely or fail, these
machines automatically reduce the frequency of the processor to maintain acceptable thermal
levels.
