To copy files to your CD using Windows XP native recording, drag the files to the
drive letter using Explorer. Windows will stage the files in a temporary location.
When you are ready to write the files to your CD, open the drive letter and click
Write these files to CD
.
Note:
Trying to eject the disc will prompt you to record the files.
Using IBM Drive Letter Access (DLA)
IBM Drive Letter Access (DLA) is included on the
User’s Guide and Software
CD so
you can write data to CD-RW and CD-R media.
CD-RW discs can be formatted two ways. The first way is normal UDF, and the
second way is UDF with EasyWrite extensions. EasyWrite extensions allow the disc
to be formatted in the background while data is being written to it. While this is
more convenient, EasyWrite written discs cannot be read in other computers
without the UDF reader.
To format a blank CD-R or CD-RW, do the following:
1.
Insert a blank disc into your CD-RW drive.
2.
Open
My Computer
.
3.
Right-Click on the Drive icon and select
Format
.
4.
Check the EasyWrite box to background format the disc or leave it unchecked
to do a normal format.
To write to formatted media, do the following:
1.
Insert a previously formatted disc into your CD-RW drive. The disc will be
mounted for write access.
2.
Drag and drop files to the CD-RW/CD-R drive letter icon, or use move the files
through Windows Explorer.
To make CD-R media compatible in other computers, do the following:
1.
Right-click on the drive letter in
My Computer
.
2.
Click
Make Compatible
.
Note:
After making compatible and appending 9 times, a CD-R disk will become
read-only.
Note:
CD-RW media can be written many times; CD-R media can only be written
to once.
Note:
On EasyWrite discs, it will take 20 to 60 seconds to suspend or shut down
your PC. Interrupting this process will cause data loss.
Note:
The drive light is not active during EasyWrite background formatting.
Using the UDF Reader
The UDF Reader software is provided to read DLA-written discs on PCs that do
not have DLA installed. When you install DLA into your system, a copy of the
UDF Reader installer is copied to your system as well. You can install the UDF
Reader on other PCs to read your own UDF created discs.
Note:
The UDF Reader is not required on any computer that has DLA installed. It
is only used on computers that share media with computers that write with
DLA.
