Port specifications
This section provides pin assignments for the following ports:
v Device’s console port (serial connector)
v
Device’s management port (RJ-45 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) connector)
CAUTION:
The intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly is suitable for
connection to intra-building or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The
intra-building port(s) of the equipment or subassembly MUST NOT be
metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring. These
interfaces are designed for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type 2 or Type
4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require isolation from the
exposed OSP cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors is not sufficient
protection in order to connect these interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.
Console port pin assignments
The console port is a standard male DB-9 connector, as shown in Figure 19.
Most PC serial ports require a cable with a female DB-9 connector. However,
terminal connections will vary, requiring a cable with either a DB-9 or DB-25
connector, male or female.
Serial cable options between the chassis and a PC or terminal are shown in
Figure 20 on page 64.
Note: As indicated in Figure 19 and Figure 20 on page 64, some of the wires
should not be connected. If you do connect the wires that are labeled
“Reserved”, you might get unexpected results with some terminals.
