Safety notices and labels
When using this product, observe the danger, caution, and attention notices
contained in this guide. The notices are accompanied by symbols that represent the
severity of the safety condition.
The following notices and statements are used in IBM

documents. They are listed
below in order of decreasing severity of potential hazards. Follow the links for
more detailed descriptions and examples of the danger, caution, and attention
notices in the sections that follow.

These notices provide important tips, guidance, or advice.

“Danger notices”: These statements indicate situations that can be potentially
lethal or extremely hazardous to you. Safety labels are also attached directly to
products to warn of these situations.

“Caution notices” on page xi: These statements indicate situations that can be
potentially hazardous to you.

“Attention notices” on page xi: These notices indicate potential damage to
programs, devices, or data.
In addition to these notices, “Labels” on page xii may be attached to the product to
warn of potential hazards.
Important:
All caution and danger statements in this document are referenced
with a letter and digit identifier. This identifier is used to cross reference an
English caution (C) or danger (D) statement with translated versions of the caution
or danger statement in
IBM Systems Safety Notices
. For example, if a danger
statement contains the identifier D004 translations for that danger statement
appear in
IBM Systems Safety Notices
under statement D004. Be sure to read all
caution and danger statements in this documentation before performing the
instructions. Read any additional safety information that comes with the
equipment or other devices before installing or repairing the device.
Danger notices
A danger notice calls attention to a situation that is potentially lethal or extremely
hazardous to people. A lightning bolt symbol accompanies a danger notice to
represent a dangerous electrical condition. This topic includes a sample danger
notice.
