Body Builder Manual Part II, Specific Book LCV
V1.0, February 2015
When using an aerial platform, certain requirements must be met:
- The vehicle must be completely stopped. The Body Builder should install a sys
-
tem that will not allow the vehicle to start while the aerial platform is being
operated.
- During operation of the crane, the extendable support feet must be always
extended and in contact with the ground, as this ensures the best possible sta
-
bility.
- The vehicle must be positioned on a flat and stable surface.
- When the vehicle is exended by the support feet, there must not be any load in
the cab, as this would produce forces that could damage the chassis frame.
5.4.13 Tilt platforms (roadside assistance)
The operation of a tilt platform body for roadside assistance generally subjects the
chassis frame of the vehicle to great stress. The vehicle used for this purpose
should therefore be specifically indicated for this application.

HMC can be contacted for recommendations regarding the choice of a vehicle with
the proper features.
See General Book, chapter 2.4 “Contact possibilities“.
To improve the strength of the original chassis frame of the vehicle it will be nec
-
essary to incorporate a subframe, which will serve as a reinforcement and ensure
the uniform distribution of the loads on the chassis.
The subframe must be of adequate size and good stiffness at the rear overhang, a
box-section and reinforcements, e.g. diagonal cross-braces, should be used for
this.
NOTICE
- If an aerial platform is installed on a panel van, the guidelines for modifying
the bodyshell must be considered.
See Chapter 4.3 "Bodyshell modifications".
- HMC should be contacted for permission to install an aerial platform in a panel
van.
See General Book, chapter 2.4 “Contact possibilities“.
