Landscape Lighting
Motion SenSor inStruction Manual
Congratulations on selecting your new Landscape
Lighting Motion Sensor. The HRL-100-MS (part number:
06730) connects directly into the Hydro-Rain
®
3-Station LED
Landscape Light Controller/Transformer to provide additional
security, comfort, and beauty to your home and yard.
Motion SenSor FeatureS:
• Passive Infrared Motion Sensor
• 120° motion detection
• Up to 40 ft. range
• Wall or yard mounting (stake included)
inStallation:
tools required:
• Wire Cutters/Strippers
• Phillips Screwdriver
• Two screws (if wall mount is desired)
• Drill Bit (if wall mount is desired)
• Power Drill (if wall mount is desired)
Yard installation:
1. Select a location in your yard, such as a flowerbed
or garden, near an area you want motion to be
detected
2. Insert stake until platform is flush and level with
the ground
3. Adjust the sensor head to optimize motion
detection, pointing it towards the area most likely
to receive motion
note: The Motion Sensor should not be placed in
a location that is beyond the length of its chord
(approximately 8 ft.).
Wall installation:
1. Select a location on a wall near an area you want
motion to be detected
2. Remove sensor head from plastic stake by sliding
the head up
3. Install a screw into the lower pre-formed hole
before doing the same with the upper pre-formed
hole
4. Adjust the sensor head to further optimize motion
detection
note: The Motion Sensor should not be placed in
a location that is beyond the length of its chord
(approximately 8 ft.).
connecting your Motion Sensor to terminal:
1. Separate the three wires, only enough for
installation, connected to your motion sensor
2. Strip ½ inch (12 mm) of the plastic insulation
off the end of each wire
3. Loosen the necessary terminal screws
4. Insert red wire into the power terminal
5. Insert black wire into the common terminal
6. Insert white wire into the appropriate station terminal
note: If installing more than one motion sensor, multiple power
(red) wires will be inserted into the single power terminal. Multiple
common (black) wires will be inserted into the single common
terminal. White wires will be inserted into the appropriate station
terminal. For motion sensor to operate, start times, stop times, and
sensor times must be entered into your Lighting Controller.
7. Secure the wires by tightening the screws.
WarningS:
• The main low voltage cable is intended for shallow burial—less than 6 inches
(152 mm).
• Warning—Risk of Electric Shock. Install all luminaries 10 feet (3.05 m) or
more from a pool, spa, or fountain.
• Landscape lights by Hydro-Rain
®
do not use tungsten halogen bulbs unless
marked for such.
• Protect your low voltage cable by:
• Routing it in close proximity to the light or fitting
• Routing it next to a building structure (e.g. house, deck)
• Do not bury deeper than 6 inches (15.2 cm) in order to connect to the main
low voltage cable
• Trim the cable length so that it is attached to a connector within 6 inches
(15.2 cm) from a building structure, a landscape light, or a fitting.
