PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE
6-Speed Automatic
Transmission
The 6-speed automatic transmission
has a Driver Shift Control feature
that enables the driver to select the
range of gears desired for the
current driving conditions, such as
when driving on downhill grades.
To use this feature, do the following:
1. Move the shift lever to
M
(Man-
ual Mode).
If the transmission was operat-
ing in
3
(third gear) or a higher
gear, the transmission will auto-
matically downshift when the
shift lever is moved to
M
(manu-
al mode).
2. Press the plus or minus button
to select a higher or lower gear
range to best suit your current
driving conditions.
The control buttons are located
on the left side of the steering
wheel.
The transmission will be limited to
the gear selected and lower gears.
Shifting will occur normally while
driving, however the instrument
panel cluster will display only the
maximum gear available. Higher
gears will not be available unless the
selection is changed to include high-
er gears using the
+
(plus) button.
When slowing down, the transmis-
sion will automatically downshift.
When accelerating, the transmission
will automatically upshift until it
reaches the maximum available gear
displayed.
If current vehicle speed is too high or
low for the requested gear, the shift
will not occur until the proper
conditions are met.
