5.1 Basic Configuration Procedure
This section introduces the basic procedure for creating a mirrored volume.
Prerequisite
Before creating a mirrored volume, complete the following operations.
l
Creating a disk group.
l
Creating a volume in the disk group as the source volume.
NOTE
l
Hot relocation function: If this function was selected when a mirror was created and the mirror disk is
faulty and inaccessible, the system automatically specifies a disk that has the same capacity as the
faulty mirror disk in the disk group in which the mirror disk is located, so that the mirroring is
reconstructed.
l
DCO: This function records data differences between disks that have a mirroring relationship. If a
mirroring exists between disk A and disk B and disk A is faulty, the changed data in disk B is recorded
in the DCO disk through the bitmap since the moment disk A is faulty. After disk A recovers, it can
synchronize with disk B according to the differences recorded in the DCO disk, so the synchronization
process is complete quickly.
l
If you want to realize quick data recovery after a disk fault through the DCO disk, the free capacity of
the disk group must be smaller than the capacity of the mirror volume.
l
After the source volume is created, the disk group must have a disk whose free capacity is larger than
that of the source volume.
l
If you select
Logs & DCO of volume stored
when adding a mirror, the disk group must have two
disks that are not used.
CAUTION
Before adding a mirror, note the following.
l
If you select
Logs & DCO of volume stored
but did not select
Hot-relocation use
, the
number of disks in the disk group must be four.
l
If you did not select
Logs & DCO of volume stored
nor
Hot-relocation use
, the number
of disks in the disk group must be two.
l
If you only select
Hot-relocation use
, the number of disks in the disk group can be greater
than two.
