Device security
1.
Prevent foreign objects from entering the device to avoid potential damage, and avoid
placing the device in the following environments:
–
A place under direct sunlight or a high temperature.
–
A place with strong electromagnetic interference.
–
A place filled with flammable, explosive or other chemical gas.
2.
Do not open the device shell when the device is running. If faults occur, see
for troubleshooting. If faults persist, contact Huawei technical support
engineers.
3.
Immediately power off the device and contact Huawei technical support engineers for
solutions when the following problems occur:
–
The device is exposed to the rain or other liquid enters the device.
–
The device falls from a high place or suffers a shell damage.
–
The device emits a burning smell.
–
The device cannot normally work.
4.
The device must be grounded to avoid damage from the surge current.
1.1.2 Other Precautions
Keep optical ports and fiber end faces clean
l
Check whether all fiber connectors are cleaned before connecting the fibers. If dust or
other contaminants exist on the connector end faces, heat will be absorbed, which causes
a local temperature rise and therefore burns the end faces.
l
Install dust-proof caps to the optical ports for protection.
Pay attention to the status of the PUMP switch
l
When cleaning the end face of the fiber at the output end, ensure that the PUMP switch
of the EDFA is turned off. Otherwise, the optical port will be damaged.
Properly connect the device to the power supply
Do not reversely connect the polarities of the -48 V DC power supply. Otherwise, the device
cannot work.
NOTE
Power cables delivered with the product: Red
→
0 V/ground; Black→ -48 V/power.
Ensure reasonable input power
The input power must be within the power range supported by the receiver of the device, that
is, -10 dBm to +10 dBm. Otherwise, the PUMP fails to function.
Use a proper upstream optical transmitter
The stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) threshold for the outer modulation optical
transmitter used by the EDFA in the upstream direction must be greater than or equal to 18
dBm, to avoid an abnormal modulation error ratio (MER) value at the output end.
