Quidway® NetEngine 80E Core Router
Main Processing Unit
Overview
Main Processing Unit (MPU) is the core of the Quidway
®
NetEngine 80E core router (“NE80E”
hereinafter).
The NE80E provides 22 slots in total, two of which are reserved for the MPU. MPU supports hot
swapping. It is suggested that you configure two MPUs in order to implement MPU redundancy and
enhance the system reliability. Each MPU needs to be configured with one or two Compact Flash
(CF) cards (512MB) and memory (1GB). It is suggested to configure two CF cards and memory for
improving the system performance.
CR52-MPUA
MPU is integrated with the clock module, LAN Switch module and CF card. As the core of system
control and management, MPU also serves as system clock source and maintenance and
management unit. It implements the functions of control and system maintenance planes.
The detailed functions are as follows:
z
Execute routing protocols:
All routing protocol packets are sent by the forwarding engine to MPU for processing. The MPU
updates routing entries and load forwarding tables to the forwarding engine. In addition, the
MPU also is responsible to broadcast and filter routing packets and download routing policies
from the policy server.
z
Execute the signaling protocols.
z
Provide out-of-band channels for the communication between boards.
This function is attributed to the LAN Switch module and aimed to control, maintain and
exchange information between MPU, Switching Fabric Unit (SFU) and Line Processing Unit
(LPU).
z
Provide level-3 clock and the reference clock of the switching network.
It provides service and interface boards with high-precision and high-reliability SDH clock
