GETTING STARTED
Caution
This equipment will help locate most non-
metallic underground services BUT the absence
of a positive indication does not guarantee the
non-existence of such services.
ALWAYS EXCAVATE WITH CARE.
GENERAL SAFETY
The sonde can only be used with a Cable and Pipe
Locator which can detect signals transmitted at
33kHz, suitable locators are available for hire from
your local HSS Hire Shop.
Unscrew the end cap and connect a PP3 Alkaline 9V
battery to the battery terminal ensuring the
connections are the correct way around
(see illustration).
As soon as the battery is connected, the unit is
activated and will transmit a signal
@ 33kHz. It is
therefore important that the battery is disconnected
whenever the unit is not in use.
Having attached the battery,
insert the battery,
terminal first, into the body of the sonde. Refit the
end cap and screw firmly in place
ensuring that the
‘O’ ring makes a good water tight seal.
You can now attach the sonde to the end of a
standard drain rod,
available for hire from your local
HSS Hire Shop.
Insert the sonde into the pipe ensuring that the
sonde is rotated in a clockwise direction when
inserting and extracting.
If you don’t turn the sonde
clockwise, it will unscrew itself from the rod and become
lost in the pipe.
To detect the sonde, the locators’ selector switch
should be moved to the generator setting.
Move the locator sideways, parallel to the pipe,
sweeping the locator backward and forward
across the service.
