4 System Configuration Guidelines for NS2100 Systems
This section provides configuration guidelines and configuration restrictions for an NS2100
commercial system. Configuration restrictions are also described in
Internal ServerNet Interconnect Cabling
This subsection includes:
•
“Dedicated Service LAN Cables” (page 73)
•
“Length Restrictions for Cables” (page 73)
•
•
“Blade Element to VIO Enclosure” (page 73)
•
“Processor ID Assignment for the Blade Element” (page 74)
•
“SAS Ports to SAS Disk Enclosures” (page 74)
•
“SAS Ports to SAS Tape Devices” (page 74)
•
“Fibre Channel Ports to ESS” (page 74)
•
“Fibre Channel Ports to Tape Devices” (page 74)
Dedicated Service LAN Cables
The NS2100 commercial system uses Category 5e (CAT 5e) or Category 6 (CAT 6), unshielded
twisted-pair Ethernet cables for the internal dedicated service LAN and for connections between
the VIO enclosure and the application LAN equipment.
Length Restrictions for Cables
Maximum allowable lengths of cables connecting to components outside the modular cabinet
are:

indicates the length of the cable in meters. For example, M8900250 is 250 meters long
Although a considerable cable length can exist between the modular enclosures in the system,
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that cable length between each of the enclosures be
as short as possible.
Cable Product IDs
For product IDs, see
Blade Element to VIO Enclosure
Fiber-optic cables provide communication between the ServerNet PCI adapter card in each blade
element and the ServerNet-to-processor ports on the VIO enclosure. The optional Fibre Channel
HBA interfaces on the Storage CLIM provide storage and I/O connectivity and the Ethernet ports
