Integrated Software Solutions
The backup management software is a crucial component of the EBS that allows the hardware
components to work together. Compaq has partnered with Seagate Software Inc. and Computer
Associates Inc. to deliver an integrated, centralized, Fibre Channel storage solution for
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Novell NetWare 4.11 or later. The EBS enables multiple
servers to share libraries.
Seagate Software Backup Exec
Seagate Software's Backup Exec solution combines the benefits of
centralized data storage with a distributed fault-tolerant architecture.
Multiple backup servers share common tape storage devices, yet all
backup servers operate independently and can initiate backups and
restores regardless of the state of other servers. Seagate Software
provides many additional features designed to increase fault tolerance
and data reliability.
Computer Associates ARCserveIT
Computer Associates ARCserveIT solution within the Enterprise Backup
Solution is designed around a centralized primary server. A primary
ARCserveIT server manages and controls all tape device access and
coordinates task distribution. This primary server will automatically allocate
shared devices to queued backup/restore jobs. In the event a device is
unavailable, the primary ARCserveIT server will automatically assign
another available device to the queued backup job.
