Installing the communication board
For a high-availability solution, the communication board must be installed into each server deployed into
a clustered configuration. If one of the servers experiences a failure, the Managed Hybrid Service
continues to operate without interruption or data loss.
Process overview:
1.
Prepare the server for hardware installation or removal (on page
2.
If the server is installed in a cradle, wall mount, or storage expansion unit, do one of the following:
o
Remove the server from the cradle (on page
o
Remove the server from the wall mount (on page
o
Remove the server from the storage expansion unit (on page
3.
Remove the access panel (on page
4.
Install the communication board (on page
5.
Prepare the server for setup (on page
Prerequisites
Before installing this option, ensure that you complete these tasks:
•
Ensure that the path of the cables is clear to minimize the risk of the cables becoming inadvertently
disconnected from the servers:
o
Make sure that cable path is free from any active equipment, such as a switch or hub.
o
Position the cables so that someone will not accidentally pull or trip over them.
It is critical that the Ethernet CAT5e cables between the server cluster are not disconnected,
even briefly, while the servers are running. Any disconnection of these cables will result in a
service outage that might result in data loss.
•
Prepare a location for the two servers intended for the HA deployment.
o
Verify that the optimum environmental requirements are satisfied ("
o
The location must allow the two servers to be positioned adjacent to each other.
The servers must be near enough to each other to enable the intentionally short Ethernet CAT5e
cables (50 cm, 19.69 in) to reach both servers. These cables are included in the communication
board option kit.
•
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have the following tools available:
o
No. 2 Phillips screwdriver
o
Ethernet cables of an appropriate length for WAN, LAN, and iLO connections
Install the communication board
1.
Remove the RJ-45 port bracket.
