Getting Started With Switch Configuration
This chapter is a guide for using the command line interface (CLI) via a direct
console to quickly assign an IP address and subnet mask to the switch, set a
Manager password, and, optionally, configure other basic features.
Topics covered in this chapter include:
■
Accessing the CLI (see
)
■
Setting Basic System Information (see
)
■
Setting up Passwords (see
)
■
Updating Software (see
)
N o t e
Many other features can be configured through the CLI to optimize the
switch’s performance, enhance your control of network traffic, and improve
security. Once an IP address has been configured on the switch, these features
can be accessed more conveniently through a remote Telnet session. For more
information, refer to the
Management and Configuration Guide
which is on
the Documentation CD-ROM that came with your switch.
Booting Up and Accessing the CLI
1. Connect a terminal device to the switch as described on
.
2. Power on the switch by either inserting the power supplies or turning on
the AC to the power supplies.
3. At the prompt, press Enter to activate the Command Line Interface (CLI)
on the console.
N o t e
If the boot sequence stops and the CLI presents a bootrom prompt
(
PMON>
), call ProCurve Networking technical support.
4. From the Exec mode prompt (for example,
Switch 8100fl>
) type
enable
and
press Enter.
The prompt will change to the Privileged Exec prompt (
Switch 8100fl#
)
and you now have full access to the CLI. (For information on all of the CLI
modes, refer to the
Management and Configuration Guide
.)
