Most multicast applications written today support IGMP. The 4108gl with Fast Path
Technology takes advantage of IGMP to further isolate workgroup traffic. By simply grouping
workgroup or classroom devices on the same 10/100 module, these multicast streams can be
localized on a per module basis as shown in Figure 3b.
medium to large data
Although the HP Procurve Switch 4108gl was designed for high density, high performance
center applications
wiring closet applications, Fast Path Technology also makes it ideal for several medium to
large data center applications such a Network Attached Storage (NAS) and gigabit
aggregation
NAS applications
Network Attached Storage or NAS is a solution such as the HP Surestore NAS VA 15, 30 or
45 which includes a file server (or NAS head) and its attached storage, which in turn is
connected to the Ethernet LAN. The NAS head processes block-level I/O’s from its attached
storage. The NAS head then converts the data blocks into file-level I/O’s and sends the files
to the requesting application server or client.
