1040 automatically starts (it does not have a
power switch).

Observe the LEDs on the front and the rear of
the MSA 1040 and any expansion drive
enclosures, and confirm that no LEDs are
amber.

Power on the servers (if necessary).
Step 7: Update firmware on all components
After installing hardware and powering on devices
for the first time, verify that MSA 1040 controller
modules, expansion drive enclosure I/O modules,
and all disk drives are running the latest available
firmware. If updates are necessary, obtain the
firmware from the Hewlett Packard Enterprise
website and use the SMU to install the downloaded

Step 8: Configure the MSA 1040
Key configuration steps include setting the system
date and time, entering system parameters,
configuring storage volumes, and setting up SNMP
trap and email alert destinations. For more
