Last month, the new
HP
A-Series high-end processor
HP
was released to man-
ufacturing. This family provides you
with
CPU performance that
is
twice
that of the current
HP
The
HF'
A990 is the first
HP
processor release since the
A400 in 1986 and the
high-end
processor addition since the A900
in 1983.
The
A990 is plug compat-
ible and allows you to leverage
hardware investments
without high incremental costs,
preserves software investments
without high conversion cost and
time, adds new functionality,
integrates new and existing appli-
cations, and
system
performance while reducing
downtime.
A pre-release program was insti-
tuted several months ago that
allowed you to evaluate the
HP
A990 in your own facilities under
conditions.
This program
will
be extended until at least the
end of October 1992. For more

Hewlett-Pac kard announces the
support of the
HP Series 6400
Model 2000
2.0-Gbyte
tape
drive on
the
HP
A-Series system.
Introduced as a standalone product
in January 1992,
this
small com-
puter standard interface (SCSI)
tape
is
supported under
HP RTE-A using Revision 5.25 of the
SCSI interface driver
and the
tape device driver
This
product functionally
is
identi-
cal to the existing
HP Series 6400
Model
DAT
drives that also are supported under
HP RTE-A. Unlike the
HF' Series
6400 Model
the
Model 2000 uses 90-meter
(2.0-Gbyte) DDS cassettes in
addition to existing 60-meter DDS
cassettes only. The
HP Series 6400
Model
drives use 60-meter
DDS cassettes only.
The
HP
Series 6400 Models 2000
and
can boot and load
devices
as well as archive and
backup devices. The
Series 6400
Model
is
only supported
as
an
device.
