GENERAL TIPS FOR A SAFE OPERATION
• The winch and all their related types have a certain nominal capacity when the first rope layer is wrapped
on the drum. Overload can damage the winch, engine or rope. For loads over 70% of the nominal pull
force, we recommend using a pulley. This will help in two ways: (a) reduces the number or rope layers
on the drum and b) reduces the load on the rope by up to 50%. If the rope is doubled back to the vehicle,
attach it to the frame or other load carrier.
• Familiarize yourself with your winch before you actually use it. We recommend a few test runs to familiarize
yourself with putting on the rope. The sounds that your winch generates my be different at the various
loads, the way the rope wraps on the drum, etc.
• Examine the rope and equipment thoroughly before each start-up. A frayed or damaged rope must
be replaced immediately. Only use ropes with the right specifications or order the ropes directly from
horntools.
• Examine winch installation and bolts before each commissioning to ensure all bolts are tightened.
• Attach the load hook to the attachment point with a noose, chain or pulley. Do not attach the hook back to
the rope. This leads to damage to the rope. Always use a pulley, noose or chain with matching strength.
• Any winch that appears to be damaged in any way, worn out or not functioning normally should be put out
of service immediately.
• Only pull a car on the attachments specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
• Whenever you start your winch, always run a small test in two directions first. Even if the winch drum only
works at a small angel, make sure the winch is well balanced, especially after operating the clutch.
