10.C.(6) Installation Setup
(RX/EX Defaults Setup Variables)
The installer has the ability to adjust the following four parameters via the
Maintenance Program by accessing the using the RX/EX Maintenance page.
To make adjustments, click on Read Defaults to determine the present default
settings. It is advisable to write these values down so that you can return to
them if necessary. Adjustments are then made by using the up or down control
arrows to the right of the value window. Finally, clicking on Set Defaults records
the new values in the KRX 1053.
Stuck Mic Time: If the stuck mic protection feature is activated by grounding pin
36 of KRX 1053 connector J10531, this will control how many seconds the mic
can be continuously keyed before the transmitter turns itself off. Range: 30 to
240 seconds. The factory default is 120 seconds.
Beep Control: Controls the function of the antenna-coupler tune-tone and
associated tune-fault audio indication. Factory setting: 3.
If set to zero, no tune tone is heard in the headphones (or speaker); the pilot
has to rely on a visual indication on the HF controller for indication of a
tune-in-progress or of a tune-failure of the KAC 1052.
When Beep Control is set to a value of 1 to 99, a constant tone will be heard in
the headphones (or speaker) while the KAC 1052 is attempting to tune the
antenna. The tone will disappear when a successful tune is found. In the event
a tune fault is encountered, the tone will become intermittent and beep at about
a 1-second repetition rate. The number of beeps that are heard before they turn
themselves off is set by this Beep Count value. The pilot can terminate the
tune-fault beeping at any time by simply pressing the PTT or changing the
frequency, regardless of the Beep-Count setting. If the tune-fault beeping is
terminated by the beep-count time-out, the pilot will continue to receive a visual
tune-fault indication on the controller, assuming the controller provides for such
a tune-fault indication.
Sidetone Level: This sets the level of the sidetone heard in the headphones (or
speaker), relative to the level of a received signal. This adjustment affects the
level of both the antenna-coupler tune-tone (if activated) and the microphone
sidetone. A value of 255 (factory setting) sets the sidetone level at
approximately the same level as that of the received signal. Some pilots may
prefer a lower setting of approximately 128 (-6dB), rather than the factory
setting of 255.
