If  it  is  necessary  to  make  adjustment,  loosen  the  adjusting  screw 

lock  nut  ©   and  turn  the  adjusting  screw  (3)  so  that  the  valve  clearance 

will  offer  a  slight  resistance  when  the  thickness  gauge  is  inserted.  After 
completing  the  adjustment,  retighten  the  adjusting  screw  lock  nut while 

holding  the  adjusting  screw,  to  prevent  turning. 

Finally  recheck  the 

clearance  again  to  make  sure  that  the  adjustment  had  not  been  disturbed.

Note  : 

The  valve  clearance  must  be  checked  when  the  engine  is  cold.
