It is not necessary to remove the wheels to
perform the recommended service in the
Maintenance Schedule. However, information
for wheel removal is provided for emergency
situations.
Maintenance of spoke tension and wheel
trueness (roundness) is critical to safe
motorcycle operation. During the first 100
miles (150 km), spokes will loosen more
rapidly due to the initial seating of the parts.
Excessively loose spokes may result in
instability at high speeds and the possible loss
of control. Neglecting this maintenance may
also cause rim or spoke damage. It’s also
important that the rim locks are secure to
prevent tire slippage.
