5. Setup and Commissioning
5.1. General
To prevent damage to the pump when setting up and in
operation, the following points are to be followed:
• The setup work is to be carried out by qualified staff,
following the safety provisions.
• Before setting up, the pump
is to be investigated for any damage.
• Where there are level control systems, ensure mini-
mum water coverage.
• Air pockets in the pump housing and pipework must
be avoided (by suitable ventilation equipment or by
slightly slanting the pump).
• Protect the pump from frost.
• The electricity lines of the pump must be laid in such
a way that it operates without any risk and it is simple
to install/remove.
• Carry the pump by the handle and drain with a cable
or a chain into the conveying medium, not by the ca-
ble.
• When the ground is muddy prevent stones or similar
from being located underneath the pump, to prevent
sinking in.
• When using a hose, ensure that it can be laid without
kinking.
5.2. Fitting
Danger of falls!
When mounting the pump and its accessories work
is carried out directly at the edge of the basin! Care-
lessness or wrong footwear can lead to falls. There
is danger to life! Take all safety measures to prevent
this.
Fix the pressure pipe or the hose on the pressure branch
of the pump and lay the pressure pipe. When using a
hose connection or pipe connection with thread the hose
connector at the branch of the pump can be cut off. The
pressure pipe should have a minimum diameter of 3/4”
to ensure optimal conveyor performance. Additionally, a
non-return flap can be mounted in the pressure pipe to
prevent backward running of the water when the pump
is switched off. The pressure pipe must be mounted
without tension.
When using the hose it must be ensured that this is laid
our without bends. When using accessories, such as a
quick coupling, or similar, it has to be ensured that these
are sealed with teflon tape, since leakage reduces the
conveyor performance of the pump.
Fix the pump on the handhold with a rope and chain and
lower down into the medium. In the event of muddy
ground lay stones under the pump to prevent sinking.
Installation of a non-return flap
The pumps are used as emergency pumps in most ap-
plications and are therefore only very rarely brought into
operation. Therefore, the pump is not equipped with a
non-return flap by default. The reason for this is the possi-
ble functional impairment of the pump under certain con-
ditions.
If a very long time (months or years) has passed since its
last operation, dirt may have accumulated on the non-re-
turn flap water column (of which the most recently ex-
tracted surface water may have contained significant
amounts) and from there may have been deposited on the
non-return flap where it prevents the valve from opening.
This is especially applicable since the pump must be com-
pletely ventilated after a longer standstill time during each
initial startup.
The disadvantage of installation without a non-return flap
is that the water running back out of the line and the re-
maining residual water must be removed (wiped up or
removed with a wet vacuum). Thus, in most cases, the
possible failure of the pump in an emergency is preferred.
A non-return flap should therefore only be installed in
pumps with applications involving frequent operation (at
least 1 x per week).
Setup
The pump must be securely set up on the floor; open the
valves if necessary. The sensor switch must be placed on
the floor with the electrodes on the underside. It is im-
portant to ensure that the lower edge of the sensor switch
housing is in direct contact with the floor to ensure proper
function.
The run time of the pump is 4 minutes, i.e. after achieving
the minimum residual water extraction height of 2 mm
(see above), the pump will run an additional 4 minutes to
evacuate any continuously flowing water, if necessary,
without turning off the pump again. If the water level has
not risen after carrying out all of these steps, the pump
will switch off automatically.
5.3. Commissioning
This chapter contains all important instructions for oper-
ating personnel for safe commissioning and operation of
the machinery. The following must be complied with and
checked:
• Type of installation
• Operation mode
• Minimal submersion in water / maximum submersion
depth
After a longer downtime these points must also be
checked and detected defaults must be repaired!
The following points must be taken into account to avoid
personal and material damage when
troubleshooting machinery failures:
The commissioning of the machinery must only be
carried out by qualified and trained personnel in com-
pliance with the safety regulations.
• All personnel that is working on the machinery must
have received, read and understood the operating in-
structions.
• This machinery is only suitable for the use under the
indicated operating conditions.
