5. Setup and Commissioning
5.1. General
To prevent damage to the pump when setting up and in
operation, the following points are to be followed:
•
The setup work is to be carried out by qualified staff,
following the safety provisions.
•
Before setting up, the pump is to be investigated for
any damage.
•
Where there are level control systems, ensure mini-
mum water coverage.
•
Air pockets in the pump housing and pipework must
be avoided (by suitable ventilation equipment or by
slightly slanting the pump).
•
Protect the pump from frost.
•
The electricity lines of the pump must be laid in such
a way that it operates without any risk and it is simple
to install/remove.
•
Carry the pump by the handle and drain with a cable
or a chain into the conveying medium, not by the ca-
ble.
•
When the ground is muddy prevent stones or similar
from being located underneath the pump, to prevent
sinking in.
•
When using a hose, ensure that it can be laid without
kinking.
5.2. Installation
Danger from falling!
When installing the pump and its accessories, work
is done directly on the edge of the basin. If you do
not pay attention or wear improper footwear, this can
lead to falls. There is danger of death! Take all the
safety measures to prevent this.
Fasten the pressure line or the hose onto the pressure
connection of the pump and lay the pressure line. When
using a hose or pipe connection with thread, the hose
sleeve on the pump connector can be trimmed. To guar-
antee optimum conveying power, the pressure line must
have a diameter of at least ¾“. To prevent reflux of the
water when the pump is shut down, a nonreturn valve
must also be fitted in the pressure line. The pressure line
must be fitted tension-free.
When using a hose, ensure that this is laid without kinks.
When using accessories, such as a rapid coupling or simi-
lar, for example, ensure that this is sealed with Teflon tape
to ensure there are no leaks in the conveying power of
the pump.
Attach a rope or chain to the handle of the pump and use
this to lower it into the conveying medium. The pump
must be set down securely on the floor, open any shut-off
valves.
As the pump may operate with very low pumping heights,
the pump must be placed on a firm, non-flexible floor. If
the pump is standing on the flexible floor (e.g. in the plas-
tic tank) the pump sucks firmly to the floor and cannot
convey fluids.
The sensor switch must be placed onto the floor with the
electrodes underneath. Ensure that the lower edge of the
sensor switch housing has direct contact with the floor,
to ensure it is working perfectly. The overrun time of the
pump is 4 minutes.
Pumping Height
The pump is equipped with adjustable rubber feet:
•
1 mm residual water pumping height without sup-
porting feet. To do this, remove the 3 rubber feet
from the underside of the pump.
•
2mm residual water pumping height with supporting
feet. (Condition as supplied).
•
10 mm residual water pumping height. To do this, re-
move the 3 rubber feet in their opening on the under-
side of the pump, turn 180° and reinsert.
The pumping heights below 3mm are special pumping
heights and restrict the flow on the suction side due to
the decreased cross-section. The conveying power of the
pump is restricted by this effect. The pump achieves full
power with a pumping height of 3mm.
Installation of a Nonreturn Valve
In most applications, the pumps are used as an emergen-
cy pump and are therefore only rarely put into operation.
This is why the pump is not equipped with a nonreturn
valve as standard. The reason for this is that is may effect
the functioning of the pump under certain conditions. If
there has been a very long time (months or years) since
it was last put into operation, then there may be dirt from
the stagnant water column on the nonreturn valve (which
was sufficiently contained in the surface water pumped
when it was last operated) that has deposited on the non-
return valve and prevents it from opening. This particularly
applies as the pump must be completely ventilated each
time it is started for the first time after it has been stand-
ing for a long time.
The disadvantage for an installation without nonreturn
valve, that the water returning from the pipe must be ac-
cumulated with the remaining residual water (mopped up
or removed by wet vaccuum cleaner) is therefore overrid-
den by a possible failure of the pump in an emergency.
Because of this, a nonreturn valve must only be fitted for
applications with frequent operation (at least 1 x week).
Automatic Moisture Sensor Switch for Model C240 WF
The pump is equipped with a moisture sensor switch
that turns on the pump when the water level is just 4.5
mm. The pump remains in operation until a residual water
height of 2mm is reached. The sensor switch is connect-
ed to the pump by a cable.
Mobile Operation
If a hose is used as a pressure line, ensure that this is
completely emptied before immersing the pump for each
pumping process. Remaining liquid would still prevent
ventilation of the pump housing and therefore prevent
conveying the liquid. For the same reason, before im-
mersing, also do not convey with a pump that is already
switched on.
