Risk analysis
As system integrator you need to perform a risk analysis for the entire system and
incorporate these results in the design of the safety function. The resultant safety
circuit may deviate from the example circuits provided in chapter 6.6. In this case,
the safety circuit from your risk analysis should be used.
6.6
Examples of circuits for the STO function
Undertaking a category 0 stop
To undertake a category 0 stop, no separate safety module is needed. A corre-
sponding example circuit is shown in Figure 6.8.

When the emergency stop button is pressed, a category 0 emergency stop is per-
formed. Via safety inputs SF1 and SF2, the safety function is activated and the final
stage therefore deactivated. As a result, no more energy can be supplied to the
motor and it coasts to a standstill.
ATTENTION!
The motor is stopped in an uncontrolled manner. This may result in uncon-
trolled movements once the STO function is triggered.
