4. If you received an email about the failure or used SNMP to detect the
failure, check that the hardware serial number in the email/SNMP
matches the one on your Hitachi Simple Modular Storage 100 (see
Figure 4-2 on page 4-3 ).
5. Check the status column of the system that matches the hardware serial
number checked in the previous step.
•
Normal = Your Hitachi Simple Modular Storage 100 is operating
normally. The fault may have occurred between the array and the
host. See “A failure other than an array failure occurs” in Table 5-
1 on page 5-5 .
• --- = Storage Navigator Modular 2 cannot access your Hitachi
Simple Modular Storage 100. The MAIN SW switch may be set to
the OFF position or a network failure may have occurred between
the host and the array.See “Hitachi Storage Navigator Modular 2
cannot communicate with the array” in Table 5-1 on page 5-5 .
6. From the Arrays area shown in Figure 5-1 , click the name of the array.
When the next screen appears, click either Alerts & Events in the
Arrays pane or Check for Errors in the Common Array Tasks area. In
the Alert Parts tab, check for the failed part, such as a disk drive (see
Figure 5-2 on page 5-4 ).
• If a disk drive is shown, do not try to remove the faulty drive. Your
Hitachi Simple Modular Storage 100 is designed to prevent drives
form being removed. However, you can insert up to two spare
drives.
NOTE: If Storage Navigator Modular 2 cannot access your Hitachi Simple
Modular Storage 100, the array may be turned off or there may be a
network failure between Storage Navigator Modular 2 and the array. See
“Hitachi Storage Navigator Modular 2 cannot communicate with the array”
in Table 5-1 on page 5-5 .
