QC-300 Series User’s Guide
Approach and search distances
The probing velocity is maintained over the approach distance to the target data point. The approach
distance should be large enough to allow the system to reach a constant probing velocity, and small enough
to facilitate rapid measurement. The search distance extends the probe’s travel in the event that the target
data point is not found where it was expected. The search distance should be large enough to make the
system less sensitive to acceptable target position variations and small enough to produce an error message
when the target is outside acceptable position variations.
To specify the approach and search distances:
1 Select the Approach Distance field and enter the approach distance in
the appropriate unit of measure.
2 Select the Search Distance field and enter the search distance in
the appropriate unit of measure.
