Operating and Maintenance Instructions for
Air Release Stop, Order No. 986-01
1. Intended use:
The Hawle air release stop, Order No. 986 620 0000, is suitable for mounting on Hawle air release valves, Order No.
986 610 0000 or for installation in Hawle air release valve sets, Order No. 985 provided.
Suitable media include potable water or domestic sewage water (industrial wastewater, waste water with high acid
or alkali content only after consultation).
The air release stop, like the air release valve, must be serviced at least once a year. See also DVGW W 392 (A).
2. Product description:
The Hawle air release stop is an independent component which can also be retrofitted on any Hawle air release
valve or in any Hawle air release valve set. With the compressed air purging, the Hawle air release stop prevents
the purging air from escaping through the air release valve in a pressure range from 0.2 to 16 bar. After completion
of the compressed air purging, the residual pressure in the pipeline is lowered through an infinitely variable overflow
outlet. The valve then automatically returns to normal operating state. The purely mechanical way of working works
without any external power supply or control. The body and the internal parts of the air release stop are made of
plastic (POM).
Caution: Do not use any detergents containing chlorine or acid while cleaning, as they may destroy the body.
3. Assembly:
3.1 air release valve
The black PE-angle should be unscrewed from the valve and
replaced with the supplied PE-angle with 2 x external 1 ½ "
thread. Then screw the air release stop into the bracket and
tighten by hand. The overflow screw should point upwards after
tightening (easier to access and less risk of contamination).
3.2 air release valve set
The air release stop must be replaced with the grey plastic ball
valve. To do this, loosen the two union nuts and pull out the ball
valve. Please make sure that the two O-rings remain in the sealing
seats and do not fall into the chamber.
Insert the air release stop between the fittings and tighten the two
screw rings by hand. Make sure that they are in the correct position
- arrow pointing outwards, overflow screw upwards
4. Adjustment of the responsiveness:
In most cases, the factory adjustment is appropriate for proper
operation of the air release stop.
If, however, the air release stop is activated during normal
operation purging, or does not close during compressed air
flushing, the responsiveness can be adjusted by changing the
distance from the plug to the sealing seat.
If the response is too early, increase the distance. To do this,
hold the M6 stop nut with a 10 mm open-end wrench and turn
the valve shaft a few turns clockwise with a suitable screwdriver.
