Rack mounting instructions
For Spectrum X and MediaPort 7000 series
MediaPorts can be installed in “tabletop” fashion or they can be rack mounted using the Rack Mount
Hardware Kit (recommended method).
The following safety requirements must be considered when the unit is mounted in a rack:
IMPORTANT:
For optimum airflow, do not obstruct the air vents on the front or rear panel
of the units.
NOTE:
Disconnect all power cords before servicing the units. MediaPort units should only
be serviced by qualified service technicians.
• The rack design should incorporate stabilizing features suitable to prevent the rack from tipping during
installation and in normal use. To eliminate any possibility of tipping over, ensure that the equipment
rack is securely fastened to the floor or wall.
• When loading a rack with MediaPort units fill the rack from the bottom up and empty from the top
down.
• The rack should comply with the airflow requirements detailed in the technical specification. The rack
design should take into consideration the maximum operating ambient temperature for the unit, which
is 40°C.
• The ground should have a safe electrical distribution system that provides a reliable earth for each
unit and the rack. It must provide over current protection for the unit and must not be overloaded by
the total number of units installed. Attention should be given to supply connections other than direct
connections to the branch circuit such as power strips.
Rack mounting a Spectrum system with a MediaDirector
Rack your Spectrum components and MediaDirectors in the recommended order. For detailed
instructions and diagrams, refer to the individual rack kits for each device.
1. Install the MediaStores at the bottom of the equipment rack.
NOTE:
Ensure that MediaStores units are racked so the Operator Panel is on the left
when viewed from the front.
2. Install the MediaDirectors above the MediaStores. Refer to the instructions which ship with the
MediaDirector rail kit for instructions.
3. Install the Spectrum X and the MediaPort chassis above the MediaDirectors. The MediaPort 7002
is the chassis for both the MediaPort MediaPort and ChannelPort modules. Refer to the instructions
which ship with the rail kit for instructions on rack mounting the chassis.
4. Label each of the three Spectrum X or MediaPort units with temporary labels for easy identification
throughout the remainder of the installation procedures:
• Top Spectrum X/MediaPort/ChannelPort:
Record
• Middle Spectrum X/MediaPort/ChannelPort:
Play
• Bottom Spectrum X/MediaPort/ChannelPort:
Preview
5. Rack mount the SystemManager keyboard/monitor tray and platform. Refer to the documentation
included with the SystemManager Platform for racking details.
