HC3 1NF Replenishment Procedure
The neutralizing media that adjusts the pH level of the water must be refilled periodically. Typically, this media
is calcite and is available from Hague. To refill the neutralizing media, measure the appliance’s media bed
depth upon installation (factory freeboard). Use this measurement to determine the amount of media to add to
maintain optimum performance of the HC3 1NF.
Tools and Materials Needed
The following tools and materials are needed to replace the neutralizing media:
•
Analog scale (do not use digital)
•
1/2-inch siphon hose
•
Steel tape measure
•
Funnel with 1-inch fill tube
•
5-gallon bucket with handle
•
36-inch wooden ruler or dowel rod
•
Replacement media (P/N M050)
•
3/4-inch cap plug
Replenishment Procedure
The replenishment procedure is as follows:
Step 1
Turn Off the Water
A.
Turn off the water to the appliance.
B.
Open a tap to depressurize the appliance.
C.
Close the tap.
D.
Remove the screws that secure the bypass.
Step 2
Remove Water From Media Tank
A.
Remove the control valve from the tank and plug
the riser to prevent media from dropping into
the riser.
B.
Insert the siphon hose into the tank.
C.
Siphon the water into the bucket down to the
media level in the tank.
Step 3
Calculate Amount of Media to Add
A.
Measure the freeboard distance from the top of
the tank to the media. See Figure 6.
Note:
The recommended freeboard distance is
14 inches (36 cm).
B.
Add four pounds (1.8 kg) of media per inch below
14 inches (36 cm).
Example:
Measured freeboard
20 inches (51 cm)
Figure 6: Max Freeboard Amount
Minus factory freeboard - 14 inches (36 cm)
Adjusted freeboard
6 inches (15 cm)
Replenishment equals approximately 25 lb* (11.3 kg) of media.
* Add 25 lb (11.3 kg) of Calcite (P/N M050). It is not necessary to replenish the 1NF before the freeboard reaches 20 inches (51 cm).
Rebedding a 1NF requires a Calcite/Corosex Mix (P/N M090).
