Upgrading system software through a system reboot (method I)
1.
Save the system software image to the root directory of the master device's storage media by using
a method such as FTP or TFTP.
2.
Copy the new system software image to the root directory of the storage media of a slave.
3.
Use commands to specify the system software image to be used at the next boot of the master and
slave respectively.
4.
Reboot the device to make the new system software image take effect.
Follow the step below to specify the system software image to be used at the next boot:

CAUTION:
•
You must save the file for the next device boot in the root directory of the storage media on the device.
You can copy or move a file to change the path of it to the root directory.
•
To execute the
boot-loader
command successfully, save the file for the next device boot in the storage
media’s root directory on a member switch.
•
The names of the files to be used at the next boot of the master and slaves may be different, but the
versions of the files must be the same; otherwise, a slave will reboot by using the master's system
software image and join the IRF fabric again.
Upgrading system software through a system reboot (method II)
This method and
Upgrading system software through a system reboot (method I)
have the same effect,
but much faster because the upgrade steps are simpler. You can use only one command to copy a system
software image to a member switch and specify the file as the system software image to be used at the
next boot of the member switch. This feature simplifies the upgrade steps when multiple member switches
are available in an IRF fabric.
1.
Copy the system software image to the root directory of the storage media of the master by using
FTP, TFTP or other approaches.
2.
Specify the system software image as the file to be used at the next boot.
3.
Reboot the member switch or the whole IRF fabric to make the new system software image take
effect.
Follow the step below to upgrade the system software image:
