7) Plug the mains plug into an easily accessible mains socket .
8) For first use only: Turn the heat level control
6 to MAX and let the appli-
ance heat up for approx . 15 minutes without food . The operating light

lights up to show that the appliance is heating up .
NOTE
► The operating light

switches off as soon as the selected temperature
level has been reached .
► The operating light

may switch on and off several times during this
process . This is not a malfunction of the appliance! It merely indicates
that the appliance is maintaining the temperature .
► The thermostat only operates from the beginning of the temperature
setting scale . Depending on the room temperature, heating up will start
at different positions on the scale .
► When the appliance is heated up for the first time, the protective layer
on the heating element

burns off . You may notice a small amount
of smoke and a slight smell . This is normal and dissipates after a short
time . Ensure that there is adequate ventilation . For example, open a
window .
The appliance is now ready for use .

► To prevent the appliance from overheating, do not place any materials such
as aluminium foil, aluminium trays, plates or the like on the cooking grill

► Never operate the appliance without sufficient water in the drip tray

overheat . There is a risk of fire! See section “
Topping up the water ” .
► The surfaces of the appliance become very hot during use . During opera-
tion, touch the appliance only on the heat level control

or on the side
handles . There is a risk of burns!
1) Proceed as described in the section “ Setting up ” (steps 2–7) .
2) Turn the heat level control

to MAX and let the appliance heat up for
approx . 5 minutes without food .
