• Optimize performance by using fresh batteries and checking the transmitter connections
(remove any corrosion from the clamp, verify that the alligator clips are attached to bare
metal, check the ground connection, etc.).
• Watch for overhead lines that may cause false readings or interference.
• If tracing PVC conduit or other non-metallic tubing, run a steel fish tape into the conduit or
tube. Follow the connection instructions under Direct Connection, connecting one
transmitter lead to ground and the other to the fish tape.
Finding a Bend or a Tee
A sudden loss of signal may indicate a bend or a tee in the
buried line. Stand in one place and slowly sweep the receiver
in a circle to acquire the signal again.
Operating Strategies and Tips
General
• The antenna is directional; holding the T perpendicular to the buried line produces the
strongest signal. When necessary, scan in a circle to determine the direction of the buried
line.
