Preparation and Setup
This section helps you prepare your tractor and drill
for use, and covers seasonal tasks, and tasks when
the tractor/drill configuration changes.
Before using the drill in the field, you must hitch the
drill to a suitable tractor, inspect systems and level
the drill. Before using the drill for the first time, and
periodically thereafter, certain adjustments and
calibrations are required.
Initial Setup
The following are first-time and infrequent setup
tasks:
Install the terminal in the tractor.
Adjust the weight transfer system (page 59).
Adjust the fold cylinder counterbalance valves
and the fold assist counterbalance valve
(page 25).
Remove protective film from large highway
reflectors.
Set marker extension (page 56) and speed.
Seasonal Setup
Complete these items and then complete the
“
Bleed hydraulic system (page 76).
Calibrate speed sensor (Refer to the terminal
operation manual).
Blow out entire air system to remove
condensation. Check air flow at each row, for
evidence of plugging.
De-grease exposed cylinder rods if so protected
at last storage.
Pre-Planting Setup
Complete this checklist before routine setup:
Check that all working parts are moving freely,
bolts are tight, and cotter pins are spread.
Check that all grease fittings are in place and
lubricated. See “
Check that all safety decals and reflectors are
correctly located and legible. Replace if
damaged. See “
Inflate tires to pressure recommended and
tighten wheel bolts as specified. See “
Make sure that caster locks are not engaged
when operating the machine in the field.
Serious Implement Damage Risk
Serious damage can be done to the
implement if attempting to steer the
implement side-to-side with caster locks
engaged.
Terminal Installation
Visibility Hazard
Mount the terminal so it is easy to monitor
during planting, but does not interfere with
safe operation of the tractor in the field or
on public roads.
This machine requires an existing universal terminal
be installed in the cab of the tractor. The terminal
must have an ISOBUS compatibility of level 3 or
higher and be a touch screen. If you are unsure
whether your terminal is ISOBUS level 3 compatible,
have a dealer examine your terminal software and
perform any upgrades necessary. To ensure quality
and long lasting performance, you should take your
terminal to a dealer for software updates regularly.
If your tractor has no pre-existing terminal, a Mueller
terminal (shown below) is available. Contact your
dealer for more information.
For setup, refer to the user guide for your terminal.
