5.3.7 Making a PiP (Picture in Picture) in HR Mode
Making a PiP in HR mode is basically the same as in SD mode.
Note
In HR mode, the
Fill
source must not be the same as the background source.
Note
There is a special
PiP within PiP
possibility in HR mode which allows you to
use four images in spite of the limitation to only three HR inputs. See
5.3.8 Making a PiP within a PiP in HR Mode
The PiP function in HR mode generates a PiP within an HR image (which
is already assembled on the input) before the HR keyer.
This compound image behaves like one single image for keying and tran-
sitions. This means that the PiP of the HR image cannot be faded in and
out independently from the main HR image, and no separate keying is
possible (for example, chroma keying on a special color).
Note
The source of an HR PiP is always an SD signal: SD PGM, SD PVW, Aux 1,
or Aux2.
The HR source image cannot derive from a different SD source. Therefore,
it should be VGA, DVI, or HD SDI. However, HD SDI also accepts an SD
signal.
HR Key Type
PiP
sets up the outer PiP. However, sometimes a different
Key Type could be useful.
Note
HR Key Type
PiP
is not the same as the described PiP of HR images. Key
Type
PiP
means that neither luminance nor chroma keying will take place,
but the assembled HR image will be cut into the background without any
change.
Thus, you get an HR image including its PiP, which in turn is used as “keyer
PiP” for the background (see figure below).
Note
Other Key Types may be used for special setups: The assembled HR image
can be keyed into the background, using luminance or chrominance keying.
Overcome Input Limitations
By setting the main HR image size to
1
, the PiP of an HR image can also be
used as a simple PiP. Thus, you can overcome the limitation to three HR
inputs: The preview output may have
IN01 HR
with PiP
SD Aux1
, and the
program output may have
IN02 HR
with PiP
SD Aux2
. Set the completely
covered and invisible background to
IN03 HR
.
This setup is not possible using only regular Keyer PiPs (like in
PiP (Picture in Picture) in HR Mode
on page 61), because four images are
visible, but there are only three HR inputs – two full featured and one
internal.
