Section 5 Ñ Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
Perform Visual Checks
Carefully check all of the equipment. Verify that all of the modules in the
Signal Processor frame are plugged in. Verify that all of the cables are
connected properly. Check the function of all of the other equipment
hooked up to the Model 1200 for proper function.
Check Status Indicators
Verify that all of the status indicators are giving the proper indications as
explained under the headings that follow.
DC Power Indicators
When power is on, the following LEDs on the front of the frame modules
will remain on to indicate presence of DC power on the modules:
■
Control Processor Module: DS1 Green +5V
■
Crosspoint Module: DS1 Green +5V
■
Keyer Module: DS1 Green +5V, DS2 Green +5VA
■
Mixer Module: DS1 Green +5V, DS2 Green -5.2V
If any of these LEDs is off, the DC fuse on the module or in the power
supply may be blown. If all of these LEDs are off, the AC fuses in the power
supply or AC connector may be blown.
Bootup Diagnostic Indicators
Use the power switch inside the front of the frame to turn power off and on
again. As the system boots up from power off, only the 68302 I/O Processor
is running. The first thing this processor does is perform diagnostic checks
of the system. As it does the checks, different LEDs on the front of the frame
modules will light:
■
Background LED lights during check of 68302 RAM.
■
Field LED lights during check of 68020 RAM.
■
DS8 flashes briefly during checks of system bus, I/O ports, etc.
■
DS9 lights to indicate an error. Any LEDs that were on before the error
was found will remain on, indicating the problem area, and the system
will hang up in a loop trying to access the location that failed. To locate
the exact problem area, trigger an oscilloscope on the write strobe to the
LED driver and check what area the system was trying to read or write
to. You can also use the CPU Diagnostics and Data Delivery Protocol
Diagnostics later in this section to further check the CPU and I/O ports.
