Wheel Nut Torque
Torque is the amount of rotating force applied to a fastener, such
as a lug nut. The axle and wheel assemblies of your
RV are designed differently than those on your car. The
overall size, weight and center of gravity subject the wheels
to pressures unique to trailering. During normal cornering,
the tires and wheels experience a considerable amount of stress
called
side-load
. Therefore, the lug nuts on your RV frequently
require torque maintenance.
• ALWAYS use a properly calibrated torque wrench
to confirm proper torque.
• ALWAYS check lug nut torque on each wheel before
departure, regardless of how short the trip may be.
• DO NOT allow
under
-torque or
over
-torque on any wheel.
• Tighten the lugs in the correct order for your RV's lug
pattern shown in the diagram. (

)
Find your RV's wheel size on the table (
Below
). Tightening the
lugs should be done in three stages. Determine the correct
torque for each stage, and use the torque sequence shown.

Pre-Travel Information
Always torque the wheel
nuts to the specifications
of the wheel manufacturer.
Over or under-torqued
wheel nuts can cause the
wheel to separate from the
wheel mounting surface
during operation, causing
property damage, personal
injury or loss of life.
