Motor Brush Removal
Replace brushes worn to less than 1/2 in. Brushes wear
differently on each side of motor, check both sides.
Brush Repair Kit 287735 is available.
1.
Read General Repair Information, page 7.
2.
Relieve Pressure
, page 6.
3.
Remove motor shroud and two inspection covers
(A).
4.
Push clip spring (B) to release hook (C) from brush
holder (D). Pull out spring clip (B).
5.
Pull brush lead (G) off terminal (F). Remove brush
(E).
6.
Inspect commutator for excessive pitting, burning, or
gouging. A black color on commutator is normal.
Have commutator resurfaced by a motor repair shop
if brushes wear too fast.
7.
While rotating fan by hand, using compressed air,
blow air into positive (top) brush holder to remove
brush dust.
NOTE:
To contain the dust, turn on your shop vac. Place
the end of a vacuum over the negative (lower) brush
holder while blowing compressed air into the positive
(top) brush holder.
