OPERATING YOUR FREEZER

(continued)

Quick-Freezing

For quick-freezing small amounts of food, place it in direct contact with any

refrigerated surface. For quick-freezing large amounts of food, turn the
control dial to

and return it to the regular setting after freezing

is completed.

Never freeze more than 3 pounds of food per cubic foot of freezer
capacity at one time.

CARE AND CLEANING

Cleaning Inside and Outside

Unplug and empty the freezer. Wash the inside with
warm water and baking soda solution—about two
tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water. Then

rinse and dry.

Don’t use cleansers such as soaps, detergents,

scouring powder or spray cleaners inside the
freezer—they may cause odors.

Wash ice trays, drip tray and shelves with mild
detergent solution and dry them with a soft cloth.

Wipe the outside of the freezer with a soft cloth
dampened with soapy water or Appliance Polish
Wax Cleaner (Cat. No. WR97X216), available
from GE Appliance Service and Parts Centers.

Use only mild, soapy water to clean the door gasket.

Never use acids, chemical thinner, gasoline, benzene
or the like for cleaning any part of the freezer. Boiling
water and benzene may deform or damage plastic parts.

Do not wash any

plastic parts from your freezer in

your automatic dishwasher.

The condenser is located on the back of the freezer.
To maintain the freezer at peak performance, clean the
condenser at least twice a year, using a vacuum
cleaner with its dusting attachment.

Defrosting

Defrost whenever frost becomes

 thick.

Never use a sharp or pointed instrument to
remove frost as it may damage the freezer.

Do not use any electrical device in defrosting
your freezer.

To defrost, remove food and ice trays. Be sure to
keep the drip tray in place. Then set the temperature
control dial to the “OFF” position and disconnect
power to the freezer.

Leave the freezer door open until defrosting is
completed. To speed up defrosting, place pans of hot
water on freezer shelves and wipe with warm towel or
sponge.

After defrosting, remove drip tray and dispose of
water. Clean the interior and return drip tray. Then
turn the temperature control back to the original

setting.

After operating temperature has been reached,
return food and ice trays to the freezer.
