Emergency procedures
Introduction
This section describes how to perform an emergency shutdown of BioProcess LPLC and
MPLC columns.
Precautions
WARNING
Pressure will remain in the column and piping for an extended pe-
riod after shutdown. Make sure all lines and chambers are depres-
surized before opening or dissconnecting.
WARNING
Do not reset after an emergency shutdown if the column or piping
is suspected to be damaged or otherwise defective. Damaged or
defective columns or piping might leak or rupture.
Emergency procedures
In an emergency situation, for example if a leak is suspected or detected, perform the
following action to stop the run:
Action
Step
Push the Emergency Stop button on the control panel of the BioProcess
system connected to the BioProcess LPLC or MPLC column. This will shut
down the chromatography system coupled to the column and stop the flow
of fluid to the BioProcess LPLC or MPLC column.
1
Release the pressure in the column and coupled system. Make sure that the
BioProcess LPLC or MPLC column and system are depressurized before
taking any further action.
2
Investigate and solve the cause of the emergency situation.
3
Resume operation only after any problems have been rectified.
