10.6 VALVE REASSEMBLY
10.6.1 FIRST STAGE CONCENTRIC VALVE
Place upper valve body (11) on open vice jaws or a tubular support (an upturned aerosol can top or
similar object will be suitable for this purpose), with locating pegs (7) and (8) uppermost. Place suction
plate (4) on the valve body, engaging it with peg (7).
Place radial or curved lift washer (6) on to suction plate (4) with convex side in contact with plate.
Follow this with lift washer (5). Position 'O' ring (12) in groove.
Assemble springs (3), as illustrated and place in valve body (11), ensuring pegs (8) each engage with
a different spring slot, to prevent any rotational movement of the springs. Fit delivery plate (2),
engaging it with pegs (8) in the same manner as springs (3).
Assemble valve body halves by carefully passing central stud of lower body (1) through the centre of
upper body (11), taking care not to disturb the alignment of the plates and springs with pegs (7) and
(8). Align holes in valve body (1) with the pegs, and carefully push the valve body halves together,
against the spring plate force.
Holding the valve halves together, lift the assembly and fit nut (9). Tighten nut to recommended
torque.
Test for correct operation by ensuring free movement of suction and delivery valve plates.
Lightly smear new 'O' ring (10) with silicon grease and fit to groove in upper body (11).
10.6.2 SECOND STAGE CONCENTRIC VALVE
Place upper body (10) face downwards on suitable metal ring or protected open vice jaws with
locating peg uppermost.
Place valve plate (5) to locate over peg (6).
Place three spring plates (4) onto valve plate, locating them on peg, springs facing downwards.
Follow this with valve backing plate (2). Place delivery valve springs (3) onto valve/backing plate
having first positioned them as follows:-
Assemble the delivery plate springs (3) in pairs, rotating one spring in each pair until the inner and
outer circumferences are matched perfectly.
Hold the two pairs of springs together with the concave faces facing each other and then rotate one
pair until their edges touch all round the circumference and there is a constant gap around the inner
edge.
Place the second valve backing plate (2) on spring plates and then after ensuring concentricity place
lower body (1) onto assembly. If all components are located correctly upper and lower bodies will
contact.
Replace washer (8) over stud. Place nut (9) on stud and tighten to recommended torque.
Test for correct operation by ensuring free movement of suction and delivery valve plates.
Ensure 'O' ring (7) is secure in slot in upper valve body.
