Insert a Screw through the holes you lined up in Step
7
. Use a tape measure or the top of the
Cedar Board to line up the Flat Support so it is straight. Make sure the ends of the boards are flush,
and then insert Screws into each of the Flat Support's holes.
Step

.
Repeat Steps
7
–

to assemble the other End Panel.
Assembling the Planter Box
Step
10
.
Stand one of the Side Panels upright on the ground. Take one of the End Panels and slide
the edge of it into a Corner on the Side Panel (Figure
3
).
NOTE:
The Short Platform Support should
sit under the Long Platform Support. You may need to use a Rubber Mallet to get the boards fully
seated into the Corners. Secure the panels together by inserting a Screw through the remaining
predrilled holes in the Corner. Insert another Screw into the holes that line up in the Long and Short
Support Platforms (Figure
3
). Repeat to attach the other End Panel onto the other end of the same
Side Panel.
Step
11
.
Take the remaining Side Panel and slide the Corners' open channels onto the End Panels
to form a box. Make sure the Short Platform Supports are under the Long Platform Supports,
and that all the boards are flush inside the Corners, using a Rubber Mallet if necessary. Secure
the panels together by inserting Screws through the remaining holes in both Corners, as well as
through the holes that line up on the Long and Short Support Platforms (Figure
3
).
Step
12
.
Attach the
3
Cross Supports to the Long Platform Supports by placing the Cross Supports
underneath the Long Platform Supports, lining up the holes, and inserting Screws (Figure
4
).
Step
13
.
Set the Cedar Floor Planks on top of the Supports, arranging them so there are small gaps
between the planks. (The gaps allow water to drain.) Place the Fabric Liner over the Floor Planks.
Step
14
.
Insert a Corner Cap into the top of each Corner, using a rubber mallet if necessary.
Attaching the Shelf
Step
15
.
Choose which Side Panel you want the Shelf on. At the corner, use your tape measure to
make a mark
1⅛
" down from the top of the panel. Take a Shelf Bracket and line it up against
the side of the Corner and the mark you made (Figure
5
). Attach it by inserting
4
Screws into the
holes on the back of the Shelf Bracket. Repeat to attach a Shelf Bracket next to the other Corner.
Attach the third Shelf Bracket at the center of the Side Panel,
4
' from the end of the planter box.
Step
16
.
Once all
3
Shelf Brackets are attached, lift up the top of them until they are locked in an
upright position (Figure
6
). Place the Shelf on top of the Brackets. Line up the sides of the Shelf
with the sides of the planter box and make sure the back of it is tight against the Side Panel.
Step
17
.
To attach the Shelf to a Shelf Bracket, first make sure the bracket is straight (or the shelf
won't fold down correctly). Working from underneath, use your
3½
–
4
" long Phillips bit to
place a Screw through the front hole and into the Shelf. Place a second screw into the back hole
(Figure
6
). Double-check that the Bracket is straight and finish securing it by placing Screws into
the remaining
2
holes. Repeat with the other
2
Shelf Brackets. Your Plant-A-Bar assembly is
complete!
To lower the Shelf, hold the handles on the Shelf Brackets and lift the Shelf before releasing the handles.
You may need to release one side of the Shelf before releasing the other side, or use two people to lower it.
The Plant-A-Bar holds
13
cubic feet (
329
quarts) of planting mix. Fill the raised bed with a mixture of Potting
Mix and plenty of organic matter, such as compost. You may mix in other materials, such as Eco-co
®
Coir
(coconut fibers), to help aerate and retain moisture in the soil. Now you’re ready to plant!
