Step 6.
To install the netting, begin by laying it on the ground inside the frame,
orienting it so the top four corners are near the uprights. Take eight of the Storm-
Proof Clips and insert them about 6” from each corner by pushing the pointed
arrow of the clips through the mesh of the netting (Figure 5). Position clips near the
seam to ensure good tension is achieved across the net.
Step 7.
Once you have eight clips attached near the corners, place 18 additional clips
in between them, spaced approx. 12” apart. Install the netting onto the frame by
snapping the eight corner clips onto the top bars between the Brace Mounts and
3-Way Connector in each corner. Then snap the others clips into place. To help keep
the net tidy, insert the remaining four clips about halfway up each Upright Pole.
Step 8.
Insert the Ground Pegs through the base of the netting and into the ground.
We recommend spacing them about 12” apart.
Important:
Please ensure the netting
is securely attached to the ground to prevent it from blowing away when the clips
detach during storms.
Step 9.
Determine where on the crop cage you would like the “doors” and how wide
you want them to be to determine the placement of the Access Strip Zippers. Hold
one of the zippers up against the netting, lining up the bottom of the zipper with
the bottom of the netting. Mark the spot on the netting at the top of the zipper.
Starting from the bottom, use scissors to make a straight cut up the netting to about
6” under the spot you marked.
Caution:
The Access Strip Zippers are shorter than
the netting, so they will not reach the top of the Crop Cage. To avoid having a gap at
the top of the zipper, do not cut the full length of the opening to start. Instead, make
adjustments to the cut as you are fitting the strip into place.
Step 10.
Pull apart the Velcro edge along the top of the Access Strip Zipper. Place the
strip into the opening, and press the Velcro back together with the netting between
it (Figure 6).
Note:
Check now to see where the end of the strip falls, in case the cut
in the netting needs to be lengthened.
Step 11.
Do the same with the Velcro sides of the Access Strip Zipper, fitting them
around the netting on both sides of the opening (Figure 7). When you are done, the
strip should be attached to the netting fully along the perimeter of the opening you
created.
Step 12.
Repeat Steps 9-11 to install the second Access Strip Zipper 18” to 24” from the
first zipper (or however wide you want your doorway). Once done, you can unzip
both Access Strips and roll up the netting to form an open doorway, as shown in
Figure 8.
Step 13.
Repeat Steps 9-12 to make a second “doorway” with the remaining two
Access Strip Zippers.
The frame of the Crop Cage can be left
outside in winter weather; however, we
recommend storing the netting and clips in a
protected location to increase the longevity
of the netting.
