NOTE:
If you have the optional Casters, now is the time to insert them into the bottom of the legs.
Turn the assembled garden upside down. Place the Caster Inserts into the four legs and tap into place
with a rubber mallet. Push a Caster firmly into each Caster Insert. Turn the garden right side up.
Step 7.
To install the Water Reservoir, lift the Reservoir Platform off of the Basin and remove the Water
Level Indicator and Capillary Strips that are inside. Notice how the platform has four slots with teeth,
running down the middle length. Insert one end of a Capillary Strip through one of the slots, and
insert the other end through the slot closest to the first one (Figure 4). Pull on both ends, until the
strip is tight across the top. Repeat with the second Capillary Strip and the remaining slots.
Step 8.
Place the Reservoir platform back on top of the basin and press it firmly into place. Take the
Water Level Indicator and slide it into the hole on edge of the platform (Figure 4). Carefully place the
Water Reservoir into the planter, so that it sits on the Reservoir Supports.
Step 9.
Place the Corner Caps into the top of each
aluminum channel. Place the remaining 4 Corner Caps
(Soil Plugs) into each Corner of the Reservoir. The planter
assembly is now finished.
When adding soil to your planter, start by pouring in a few
inches of your pre-moistened planting mix and pressing
it firmly into the surface of the reservoir platform, before
adding the rest of your mix. We recommend using a light
and airy mix, such as our Self-Watering Potting Mix. After
planting, water from above to help your plants settle in,
and fill the reservoir using the Fill Tube on the Water Level
Indicator. You may need to keep watering from above until
your plants are well established.
NOTE:
If you experience extended dry weather, check the
water level frequently and keep the reservoir filled. If the planting mix dries out, refill the reservoir and water the mix thoroughly from
above to re-establish the wicking action.
About Drainage:
This planter has built-in overflow drainage. When the water reservoir is full, any excess water will drain out. The
draining water can stain surfaces under the Standing Garden. If you are using the planter indoors, take care not to over-water.
