1 Product Description
The Crossing Telephone is a metal-bodied, weather resistant telephone
designed for connection to PETS. Features include:
•
CB Operation only – lift handset to loop line – no dialling is possible.
•
Illuminated legend panel and switch.
•
Selectable illumination level setting.
•
Selectable call timer
•
Voltage free contacts, (N\C, N\O, COM) available on the terminal block,
which operate when the front panel button is pressed.
2 Pre-Installation
The Crossing Telephone is connected by hard wiring -(unlike a standard indoor
telephone, which uses a plug and socket). Because of this, additional
requirements must be observed. Connection to the network (including via a
PBX/PABX) must be performed by authorised personnel with the agreement of
the network provider. Connections to the telephone should be isolated at the
network termination point (NTP) before opening the telephone case.
IMPORTANT
THE SAFETY OF THE USER/INSTALLER RELIES ON ISOLATION OF THE
TELEPHONE NETWORK AND NOT ON THE EARTHING OF THE CASE.
When connection is being made to privately owned extension wiring of a
PBX/PABX, then this should only be performed by either the network provider
to which the PBX/PABX may be linked, or by the authorised maintainer of the
PBX/PABX.
2.1 Ringer Equivalence Number (REN)
Exchange lines provide a limited amount of current to make telephones
connected to them ring correctly. In order to ensure that telephones will ring
properly, the number of instruments that may be connected to one line must be
controlled. All telephones are designated a Ringer Equivalence Number (REN)
- the Crossing Telephone has a REN of 1.
Note:
Some PBX/PABX lines have different capabilities to the public network
and the Installation Handbook should be consulted for information.
When the Crossing Telephone is 3-wire connected with different models of
telephone, then full performance cannot be guaranteed.
