Disassemble the valve only as far as needed to
replace damaged or worn parts.
First ensure there is no pressure within the
valve. Refer to Pages 5 and 6 for parts location
and identification.
Remove the cover bolts (9) and lift off cover (2)
with float and linkage attached. It may be
necessary to pry the cover off. Be careful not to
damage or lose the cover O-ring (6).
Remove the spring pin (16) to free the lever arm
(13) from the cage (3). Remove the cage bolts
(17) and lift cage from cover. Unscrew the seat
(4) from the cage and remove the plug (5) and
bushing (12). Note: Bushing only used in 6
”
valves or smaller valves with ductile iron cage.
Remove the cage O-ring (7) and renewable seat
(8) from the seat.
If necessary, remove upper (10) and lower (11)
plug extensions. The extensions are secured to
the plug with Loctite so it may be necessary to
apply heat to remove them.
Remove spring pins (16) from universal
coupling.
The float ball (12) is removed by loosening the
hex nut (28) and unscrewing the float ball (21)
by hand being careful not to lose the lock
washer (20). It may be necessary to apply some
heat in order to unscrew the float.
Remove the float hood (23) by removing the cap
screw (22) and lock washer (25).
Inspect all parts for wear and damage. Minor
scratches and dents in the float are normal.
Replace the float if water is detected inside of it.
Replace damaged parts.
REASSEMBLY
Clean all parts especially seating and sealing
surfaces before reassembling valve. Worn parts
should be replaced during re-assembly.
Install bushing (12) and plug (5) in seat (4),
lubricate and install renewable seat (8) in seat
(4). Screw seat (4) into cage ensuring
renewable seat remains in place. Install cage O-
ring (7), position cage on cover and install cage
bolts (27) and tighten.
Sizes 3
” and 4”:
Thread orifice button (17) all the way into
lever arm (13) and install hex nut (18) and
lock washer (19) but do not tighten.
Connect the lever arm (7) to the cage (3)
using spring pin (21).
Adjust orifice button (17) so that the end of
the lever arm (13) nearest the orifice button
is about 1/16” farther from the cover than the
opposite end when the orifice button (17) is
gently resting on the plug (5) with the plug
fully seated. Secure by tightening hex nut
(18).
Install hex nut (20) and lock washer (24)
onto end of float rod (10). Apply Loctite 263
to the threads on the float rod (10) and
screw float ball (12) onto float rod (10).
Tighten hex nut (20).
Size 6
”:
Place orifice seal (17) on lever arm (13) and
install orifice seal screws (28), lock washers
(18) and hex nuts (19). Tighten but do not
deform orifice seal (17). No adjustment is
required.
Apply Loctite 263 to threads on float rod (14)
and screw float ball (21) tightly onto float rod
(14) by hand.
Apply Loctite 380 to cap screw threads (22).
Install lock washer (20) onto cap screw (22) and
insert through center hole in float hood (23),
screw onto float ball (21) and tighten.
Install spring pins (16) in universal coupling (15)
to attach the float rod (14) to the lever arm (13)
Position lever arm (14) and install spring pin (16)
to attach lever arm to the cage.
Verify free movement of linkage mechanism and
that the orifice button or seal (17) presses
against the plug (5) when the float rises and
pulls away when allowed to fall.
Lubricate and place O-ring (6) in cover (2) and
carefully place cover (2) on body (1) ensuring O-
ring is retained. Install the cover bolts (9) and
tighten in an alternating pattern.
Carefully introduce pressure and check for
leaks.
